More colourful life

The autistic centre Drahuškovo in Krajné makes the impression of an oasis of peace although it is not far from the hectic civilisation centres like Piešťany or Trenčín. The reconstruction  of the old school was supported by the EEA and Norway grants.

Autistic clients are being involved, they participate in the daily work of the centre, e.g. they help to wash the laundry or the dishes and prepare some simple meals. They spend a lot of time either working outside or going for walks.

The centre is unique in Slovakia and serves as a good example of offering an alternative to the widespread „being closed behind a strong door” solution.

The centre has other specificity as well: it offers jobs to young adults from children´s homes who are facing the difficult challenge of finding their first job, usually at the age of 18. The job at Drahuskovo is however not an easy one and several of the young employees after some time decide to leave for something different…
