Liu Xiaobo is awarded 2010 Nobel Peace Prize

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2008 to Martti Ahtisaari. "Martti Ahtisaari is a peacebuilder", said Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg in a press release.  

The Nobel Peace Prize 2007 is shared between Vice President Al Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change.  

The Nobel days, held to honour the winners of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, are taking place in Oslo from 9 to 11 December. The highlights include the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, which will feature well-known artists from both Norway and abroad, an exhibition at the Nobel Peace Center, and the Peace Prize Award Ceremony.
