How to apply
- First time registration
If you want to create a new user, you must first choose a username consisting of at least 3 characters. Use standard Latin-letters and numbers. Special characters like æ, ø, å cannot be used.
You must then create a password that is at least 8 characters long, and contain a combination of upper case characters, lower case characters and numbers. Example: Abcd1234
After you have successfully created the new user, an email will be sent to you, this email includes an activation-link which you must click in order to activate your user. The reason for this extra step is to confirm that you have typed in the correct email address.
If you do not receive this email you must first double check that you have written the correct address, then it can be necessary to check the email spam filter. If none of these solves the problem you can also try to register using a different email address.
Please note that the portal may be inaccessible for short periods of time due to maintenance or upgrades.
- Existing user
Just go to the Norwegian Application Portal and just simply log on and use the previous application as a template. You can just change the details of the application (new dates for travel etc.)
How to fill out the application
When you have registered yourself as a user on the Portal, you can fill in the application form (click on the appropriate application form).
Please ensure that personal details recorded in the application are identical to those in your passport. All boxes marked with a star are mandatory and have to be filled out.
When you finish the application you must pay the application fee (with a Visa or Master Card) and book an appointment at the Embassy (by e-mail or telephone).
Please don´t forget to print out the cover letter.
After you have submitted the on-line application and booked the time, you must make sure to have all supporting documents ready (check the documents needed at www.udi.no). You must bring them (in original) together with the cover letter (the cover letter you have to print out when you finish the application) to the embassy.
Please note that the reference person in Norway can register online on behalf of the applicant (and also pay).
Applicants can check the status of their applications on the Application Portal. Previously submitted applications will be stored on the user's profile, and may be used as templates for subsequent applications.
If you are a citizen of an EU/EEA/EFTA country, you no longer need to apply for a residence permit, but you must instead register within 3 months of arriving to Norway. You can make a preliminary registration online.
This simplified registration process also extends to close family members of EU/EEA/EFTA citizens and to workers employed as service providers from EU companies who themselves are non-EU/EEA/EFTA citizens.
After making the registration you must report to your local police in Norway in order to complete the registration process.
