I am the 2nd resident Ambassador of Norway to Slovakia. Our embassy in Bratislava was established in 2004, shortly after Slovakia’s accession to NATO and the European Union. Norway was one of the founders of NATO, but has chosen not to become a member of the EU. Norway is nevertheless a part of the European Economic Area (EEA) which consists of the EU member countries and the three EFTA countries: Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.
During the recent years, relations between Norway and Slovakia have developed steadily and positively in a number of ways. Through the EEA /Norwegian Financial mechanisms, Norway contributes with approximately 80 million Euros to Slovakia over a five-year period. In addition to financing a number of quality projects, this assistance also contributes to better contacts and understanding between our two countries.
More and more, Slovaks and Norwegians are discovering each other’s countries as tourists or through cultural events. I am convinced that cultural activities have the ability, in their own independent way, to enhance communication between people. It is my privilege to be contributing to the maintenance and further development of these ties, as there is still a potential for extending this mutual cooperation.
My aim is to make Norway more visible in Slovakia as well as to give you an accurate image of the Norwegian society.
I encourage you to visit our web pages regularly for more information regarding ongoing activities, and if you have any suggestions for further improvement, we would appreciate hearing from you.
Thank you for your visit!
Trine Skymoen
Ambassador
