Nordic ambassadors receive Heart Against Intolerance

Last updated: 11/03/2010 // Three Ambassadors of Nordic countries received a Heart Against Intolerance. Thus, hearts of Slovak students have symbolically been given to all people of Norway, Sweden and Finland.

The idea came when university student Nikoleta Pišňáková entered the competition entitled Europe@myDesk, whose aims were to organize an event according to her imagination.

And her idea was truly heartfelt.

Nikoleta and her classmates share ideas on the equality of race, religion and nationality. They have decided to express this opinion by donating a paper heart to the Embassies of Norway, Sweden and Finland.

The heart is one of the main and most important organs of the human body, thanks to which life flows in us. The heart we would like to give you is a fragile heart out of paper that expresses what we feel. We are all human beings with one heart whether we have got white, black or yellow skin, whether we are Muslim, Hindu, Christian or of no religious affiliation,” Nikoleta wrote in her letter addressed to Norwegian Ambassador Trine Skymoen.

Nikoleta and her friends then collected over 500 signatures at one of Bratislava’s dormitories. All students signing their names agreed with the importance of fighting against intolerance. Paper hearts representing these students’ hearts have been given to Trine Skymoen, Jukka Leino, and Mikael Westerlind, Ambassadors of Norway, Finland, and Sweden, respectively.
